💙 Workshop Recap: Empowering Dementia Caregivers with Compassion and Skills

On 18 January 2025, the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM) successfully hosted its Caregivers Dementia Care Skills Workshop at the ADFM Day Care Centre in Petaling Jaya—and what a meaningful day it was!

From 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, caregivers, family members, and healthcare workers came together for a full-day immersive experience focused on person-centered dementia care. With expert guidance from Ms Jenny Lim, an ADFM Certified DCS Trainer, participants explored both the emotional and practical aspects of caring for individuals living with dementia.

🧠 Key Highlights of the Day:

  • Understanding the impact of dementia on families and individuals
  • Learning to design effective, person-centered care plans
  • Addressing and managing unmet needs with empathy and insight
  • Real-life case discussions and hands-on group activities
  • Opportunities to connect with others on the same caregiving journey

🌟 A Day of Growth, Connection & Community

The workshop was not only informative but deeply touching. Many attendees shared their personal stories, struggles, and breakthroughs. There was laughter, learning, and even a few tears—but most importantly, there was hope.

The event included two tea breaks and a hearty lunch, giving participants space to relax and connect with one another. For many, it wasn’t just about learning—it was about feeling seen and supported.

🙌 Thank You

To everyone who attended, thank you for your openness, courage, and dedication. You are the heartbeat of the dementia care community. Your willingness to learn and support one another is what makes events like this so impactful.
